Apuseni Mountains

The Apuseni Mountains form a captivating region in western Romania, home to a network of scenic routes and breathtaking landscapes. At its heart lies the Arieșului Valley, a significant geographical feature carved by the Arieș River, which has shaped the culture and economy of the area for centuries. This valley serves as a gateway to the region’s natural wonders, including the Transursoaia, a high-altitude road, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. More recently, the Transapuseana (DJ 107I) has emerged as a key modern artery,providing year-round access through the Trascău and Metaliferi Mountains. Together, these roads offer a comprehensive journey through the Apuseni’s diverse terrain, from deep gorges and dense forests to traditional villages and dramatic karst landscapes.
