After 253 hairpins we stopped counting

This is a free guide to the roads of Romania, made by car and motorcycle enthusiasts. We tried to make a map with the best roads, with routes and destinations depending on the beauty of the road, the quality of the asphalt and the tourist attractions in the area.

Because Straight Roads are Boring

Most of the roads are mountain roads. We tried to make some routes that would avoid highways and boring roads. We chose to emphasize the journey and not the destination. Because Romania is a fairly large country, we have divided the mountain roads map into several geographical sections.

Highlights:

TRANSALPINA

135 kilometers of winding roads and hairpin bends. You will experience low traffic, question marks if the brakes are hot, gorgeous views through the Urdele Pass. It is a motorcycle paradise and number 1 in our top.

3 famous old men came and decided that this is the best road in the world. Maybe they are right, we are not saying that they are not. Fortunately this is our site and it is in 2nd place in our top. You will have magnificent views, many bears, tens of kilometers of hairpin bends and mountain roads.
talienilor road

Gutai Pass is a scenic mountain road that connects the historical regions of Maramureș and Transylvania in Romania. This route is a motorcyclist’s dream, offering a perfect combination of wide, sweeping turns and high-quality asphalt.

talienilor road

The road was constructed between 1902 and 1914 on the orders of King Carol I of Romania. Italian master road-builders were brought in for the project, and the locals nicknamed them “talieni,” which gave the road its name.

The route winds through charming rural communities and picturesque villages like Râmeț, Ponor, Mogoș, and Bucium. The road has been modernized and paved, making it accessible for all types of vehicles and a major development for the region’s economy and tourism.
